Register for Camp Before Sept 19
Pack 970 is a family-focused Cub Scout pack in McKinney where kids build confidence, make friends, explore the outdoors, and have a whole lot of fun along the way.
Our scouts camp, race Pinewood Derby cars, hike trails, launch rockets, build projects, fish, learn leadership skills, and create memories that last for years.
Cub Scouts is designed for boys and girls in Pre-K through 5th grade and combines fun, adventure, character, and hands-on learning in a way kids genuinely love.
Cub Scouts is open to:
Pre-K and Kindergarten through 5th grade
Boys and girls
Families with any level of experience
Ranks include:
Chipmunks, Pre-K
Lion, Kindergarten
Tiger, 1st Grade
Wolf, 2nd Grade
Bear, 3rd Grade
Webelos, 4th Grade
Arrow of Light, 5th Grade
After 5th grade, scouts graduate into Troops. If you have older kids that want to learn more about joining a Troop, we can help!
Parents love Pack 970 because it gives their kids something that’s getting harder to find today, real experiences, real friendships, and real confidence. Our pack really feels like a family. We support each other, grow together and have fun together. We have a very organized and friendly group!
Our scouts are outside exploring, building things, learning skills, solving problems, and making memories instead of sitting behind screens.
Families also love that Cub Scouts is something they can do together. Parents are part of the experience, whether that’s helping build a Pinewood Derby car, camping under the stars, cheering at a race, or laughing around a campfire.
Pack 970 creates:
Strong friendships for kids and parents
Positive male and female role models
Safe, structured activities
Opportunities for leadership and growth
Family traditions kids remember for years
One of the best parts of Cub Scouts is that families participate together.
Parents camp with their scouts, help build derby cars, cheer at races, volunteer at events, and become part of a strong community.
You do not need camping experience or outdoor skills to join. Most families start brand new, and we learn together.
Many parents tell us Cub Scouts helped their child:
Come out of their shell
Build confidence
Make friends faster
Learn responsibility
Become more independent
Discover a love for the outdoors
And maybe most importantly, it’s fun!
At Pack 970, our year is packed with activities like:
Pinewood Derby
Raingutter Regatta
Family campouts
Fishing and hiking
STEM activities
BB guns and archery at approved events
Service projects
Campfires and outdoor cooking
Holiday parties and pack games
Summer activities and district events
Our program includes events like Cub Fun Day, Wisdom Winterfest, Pinewood Derby, Blue & Gold, campouts, service projects, and themed pack meetings throughout the year.
Watch this cute video from one of our camping trips.
We have Den meetings (at the grade level) on the first and second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm for about 1 hour.
We have our Pack meeting (all grade levels together) where we present awards and have fun on the fourth Tuesday of each month.
A few times a year, we will have activities over the weekend such as a Cub Scout event or a family camping weekend. This is where the campfire magic happens!
Even if you are doing sport, STEM or other activities, this will fit beautifully into your schedule unless you're blocked on Tuesday nights.
Our meetings mostly work with the school schedule so we are doing all of our meeting during the school year, then over the summer we have fun summer social activities.
Cub Scouts helps kids develop:
Confidence
Leadership
Responsibility
Teamwork
Communication skills
Independence
Outdoor skills
Character and citizenship
The Cub Scout program is built around character, leadership, citizenship, personal fitness, outdoor experiences, and family involvement.
Safety is a major priority in Scouting. All leaders complete Youth Protection Training and follow Scouting America safety policies and age-appropriate activity guidelines.
Scouting America dues are $85 per year per scout.
We ask that families pay dues of about $275 per year per scout. This helps us offset the expense of over $20,000 that we spend per year on our program.
That said, that does not all have to come out of your pocket! We have several fundraisers that we run throughout the year that give you an opportunity to fundraise to offset the dues cost for your family.
THAT'S A COST OF ABOUT $30 PER MONTH FOR EACH OF YOUR KIDDOS.
ONE TIME INVESTMENT: We also ask that parents purchase a uniform for their scouts. It's a big part of making this something special.
The uniform costs about $100 but is worn for multiple years, so it's mostly a one-time purchase!
MONEY IS NEVER THE REASON TO SKIP SCOUTING! For those in need of financial support, please ask for assistance.
The best way to experience Pack 970 is to visit a meeting or event. Come meet our families, see the scouts in action, and find out why kids love Cub Scouts. Come check out a meeting before making any commitment. We’re happy to answer questions, introduce you to other families, and help you see if Pack 970 is the right fit for your child.
From campfires and Pinewood Derby races to friendships and leadership skills, Cub Scouts gives kids experiences they’ll remember for the rest of their lives. No experience needed. Just bring your family and come have fun with us.
We’d love to meet your family.
